I’ve been using it with CamTwist, which has the ability to receive Syphon feeds, and can appear as a virtual webcam in other software, allowing Hide My Face to work in Skype and Google+ Hangouts (see below). In addition to cv.jit, the program uses Syphon as an output, meaning that other Syphon-compatible applications can receive its frames. The tool is ‘written’ in Jitter, making use of the same set of externals I used in the Mask Mirror, Jean-Marc Pelletier’s cv.jit library (based on OpenCV). Right now, the ideas I’m really looking into are still in development, although this has been a pleasant sidetrack that I’m open to developing further. For the first time ever (I think) I’ve been considering some ideas for video artworks/installations, mostly concerned with the displacement and obscuration of faces*. The tool came out of a couple of ideas, and is in its very early stages. The pixelation is incremental, so you can gradually reveal your face or, alternatively, snap one way or the other instantly. Move the slider to the left and you’re out in the open, move it to the right and you’re heavily pixelated. Hide My Face has a simple, single slider interface, designed to control how much your face is concealed – or revealed – when looking at a webcam.

Hide My Face - real-time face pixelation for your webcamĪ quick little tool I knocked together (mostly amalgamating other tools) to preserve anonymity when using a webcam…yet another by-product of a different project idea.
